Geocache Description:

This is a bonus cache on a short series entitled Barney’s Bimble. After putting out the first ten which were well received, I decided to make a bit more of a dent in my cache container collection which her indoors was complaining was taking over the dining room. Today was such a lovely sunny day that I wanted to share a walk I do along the top of Farlington Marshes with the Grumpy Mutt aka Barney.

There use to be a Travel Bug Hotel That was originally located near the Road, which was muggled and moved to the coastal Path and then Muggled again,at which point the cache owner archived it. Which was a shame as the kids and I use to enjoy Picking up / Dropping Off Travel Bugs or Just Discovering them. I hope that all cachers will take care when searching for and when found in order that this one might last a while!

There is Parking and a few hundred meters to walk along a Cycle / Footpath. Care should be taken when trying to gain access to the cache because of the nature and angle of the approach and the brambles, where the cache is located.

The Cache is an Ammo can with clip boxes inside for Travel Bugs and Swops.

WARNING: This is a cycle and footpath, which is very busy at rush hour and weekends. Please be aware that the cyclists travel along here very fast and make little or no noise so please check both ways / over your shoulder before moving ACROSS the path.

Good luck, the caches were put out using a Garmin Etrex H if any of the coordinates are out please let me know and I will adjust them.

Farlington Marshes is an area of reclaimed land in Langstone Harbour.[1] It was reclaimed from the Harbour in 1771 and includes a larger part of what was formerly Binner's Island (the remainder of the island is now referred to as North Binness Island).[1] Farlington Marshes is about 120 hectares in size and features both freshwater marsh and brackish marsh.[2] It is a Local Nature Reserve[3][4] and is a feeding ground for overwintering Brent geese.[2] During World War 2 it was used as a starfish site acting as a decoy for Portsea Island.[5] The control blockhouses remain on the marshes.
