If Neil Young is the most famous solo artist to come out of Manitoba, The Guess Who would have to be the most famous band to do so. Originally formed in Winnipeg in 1958, The Guess Who achieved international success during the late 1960s and into the mid-1970s. Some of their most famous songs include “American Woman” and “Share the Land”. The band has released more than 20 albums, and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1987.
According to Wikipedia, 20 different men have been members of the band at one time or another (or more than once). The most famous of these are Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman, both of whom are household names in Manitoba. Bill Wallace, another former member of the band and a co-recipient of the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, happens to be a local geocacher who has found more than 2,000 caches!
Congratulations to Jesterotr for the FTF!
