The Quantaas
From 1947 to 1968 a certain airline featured a kangaroo on the tail of its planes .............. with wings. From 1969 to 1999 a communications "spy" base was set up at Nurrungar some 15 km. from Woomera in South Australia. This was a joint American / Australian facility and in the late 70s and early 80s it was the habit of many of the Aussies to have great fun taking out their American friends on spotlighting expeditions to hunt for the elusive Quantaas ..... a kangaroo with small wings on its back!!!
In the fleeting light of the spotlight beam, and after the consumption of a little to much beer, many an American claimed to have spotted this elusive beast!
