Geocache Description:

This traditional cache has been placed at one of my favorite view points but also in an area full of history.

You will find yourself at the main entrance to Barmoor Castle Country Park PLEASE NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO ON TO THE PARK TO FIND THE CACHE.

To find the cache you need to check out the view of the Cheviots. Barmoor Castle is first documented when it was granted to Robert de Muschamp as part of his barony in the 1100s, it then passed in to the hands of the monks of Lindisfarne. In 1291 King Edward I stayed here while on an expedition to Scotland, then in 1513 the English army camped here before the battle of Flodden. The magnificent gates at the West Entrance commemorate this battle. (If you have time it's well worth checking out the Flodden Eco Museum). In 1801 the castle was remodeled into a masion as we see it today (although the castle is partial ruin). It is now home to a Chalet and Caravan park.

Container replaced summer 2019 (first container survived 4 years!) Thanks to a new telegraph pole being put in.
