Some of the quarries are still providing limestone, whilst some of those no longer yielding the white stuff are being filled in with a variety waste materials, once full the area will be covered in soil and farming will be reintroduced to the land.
The footpath runs from Cridling Stubbs level crossing to Stapleton. I strongly suggest that you start from Cridling Stubbs end of the path as there is off road parking for a few vehicles, from this end the path is well trod. At first the path is closed in with fencing to prohibit access to the workings, but this soon gives way to a pleasant wooded area.
At Stapleton there is no parking and in summer months the narrow path is overgrown with all things that Geocaches hate!
The caches are homemade and vary in size shape and colour. Some contain logbook only whilst others have room for swaps and whatever else you may wish to leave.
Remember Geocaching can be dangerous; nettles sting, animals bite and it usually hurts when you fall out of a tree. I except no responsibility for any injuries sustained whilst trying to retrieve these caches, if you have a problem with that, then you’d better call Saul.
