Geocache Description:

Ulysses, hero of ancient greek tales, left Ithaka for conquer Troy. This story is told by Homer in his epic poems "Iliad" and "Odyssey". His is most famous for his his idea to build a wodden horse as a hiding place for soldiers and as a present to the city of Troy. By this ruse, the Greeks were able to conquer Troy. But the tutelary goddess of Troy, Poseidon was very angry with Ulysses. How Poseidon tried to hinder Ulysses return back home is told in the epic poem Odyssey.

Because of Homer's decriptions of Ithaka as Ulysses' home island seem to be incorrect when looking at todays Ithaka, the German archeologist W. Dörpfeld came up with his theory of Lefkada being the ancient Ithaka. If you would like to visit W. Dörpfeld's grave look out for cache GC1Z60N.

In 13th book of the Odyssey Homer tells us that Ulysses' treasures were hidden in a cave... Is this the Karoucha Cave?!?!?

Maybe you would like to find out?

The cave is situated south-west of the wonderful tiny village Syvros. On the road from Vasiliki to Syvros you will find a sign to the Karoucha cave. Follow the sign, turn left at the sports ground. The street decends towards a gorge. On the right hand side you will soon discover the imposant rocks where the cave is situated. Park your car at the gravel quarry and head for the cave.

The cache is not placed in the cave, but close to the entrance, which is approximately 1x1m in size. Look at the right handside, in a small nieche.  You don't have to enter the cave!

Please hide the cache again!
