Geocache Description:

Do NOT look for this cache at the posted Coordinates they are NOT correct!

To find this cache you will have to solve a photographic mystery

Please read entire page before starting your seach!

Here's what you do.

1: Go to the posted cords and find a parking spot. This is down town so you'll have to drive round the block and perhaps pay the parking meter.

2: Look at the photo on this page. It's the black and white one that looks like it is from 1909 because it is!

3: Now line up the photo with the actual building. PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE STREET. Try to stand about where the origial photographer was standing when they took this old photo. My how things have changed! someone put an underused rail system in the way! That was silly! Just do your best!

4: Now put your feet on those shoes! I know bronze isn't very comfortable but thats where you should be standing!

5: Okay now walk about 100 feet bearing 0 degrees you should see a no parking sign. Don't walk the way of the crow silly! make sure to watch for traffic! The final is hidden there on a No parking sign in front of the building.

History

The Seminole Club and was founded on St. Patricks day in 1887 at that time it was the first faternal social club in the south. The clubs orignal meeting place was at 11 E on Forsyth St. but it burned down in the mainstreet fire in 1891. Then the club moved into a building on North Main street but then it burned down in the great fire of 1901. SO, they then built the building before you that opened in 1903. A two story building with a private garden on the roof. In 1907 a third floor was added to make more rooms.

It served as the Seminole Social Club and had visitors through out the years such as Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy untill it closed it's door in 1989. A group of members attempted to revive in 1998 yet the effort was unsuccessfull. The building was designated a historic structure by the city of Jacksonville in 2006.

It is now in use as a restaurant. I've not been yet but it smell yummy. Let me know how it is if you decide to dine here.
