Geocache Description:

Placed along the Kalalau trail, the most spectacular trail in Hawaii.

This cache is located between mile seven and mile eight of the Kalalau trail (also known as the Na Pali Coast Trail) near an emergency helicopter landing site, just past a portion of the trail known as "crawler's ledge."

Day hiking to this cache is theoretically possible, but most people out this far are going to be hiking the entire length of The Kalalau Trail, staying at least one night at Kalalau Beach and hiking back, a twenty-two mile round trip on a very rugged, poorly maintained, dangerous and absoulutely spectacular wilderness trail. Describing what you need to know to hike The Kalalau Trail is beyond the scope of this geocache description. Suffice to say that you need to do your homework before attempting this trail. You also need to be in excellent physical condition and have appropriate gear.

I don't know anything about flying helicopters but I hope I never have to land at a helipad like this. Tucked right between The Kalalau trail and a sheer cliff that drops hundreds of feet into the ocean, this helipad is nothing more than an area where the grass is shorter than the surronding grass. But it makes a great spot to take a break and gaze out across the unimaginable vastness of the ocean. If you're here in the winter you may see humpback whales.

On the other side of the trail there are some old stone terraces and some illegal campsites. Wade through the grass uphill from the campsites to find the cache. It is a camouflaged 16 ounce plastic container.

There is no cellphone reception in this area or anywhere else along The Kalalau Trail.

Congratulations to B~rad and TheBrianMan for the first to find!
