While in the area for this cache take some time and look at the elk that reside nearby.
When I first learned what elk were, I actually had to ask some fellow hunter friends what they looked like. "They look like a big deer." was the answer. "But how do you know if it's a big deer or an elk then?" I'd ask. I never got vs good answer until someone put in a hunting DVD and showed me. They don't really look like deer, though I see how that's the only way to describe them!
Now you can see them in real life to know how they differ from deer!
The elk near the cache live on a protected ranch. In the spring you can see them shedding their winter hair and their antlers in full velvet. The males have gorgeous racks and hang out pretty close to the fence. The females hang out on the other end of the property and sometimes are far away, sometimes close.
Take caution when slowing down to see them or stopping on the side of the road to get a closer look. The road is not terribly busy but cars do come down often. DO NOT PARK IN PRIVATE DRIVEWAYS for the cache or to look at the animals.
You can learn more about the ranch by reading their signs by the fence. They have boxes by these signs for donations if you feel so inclined.
