Denoz52: Due to time constraints and lack of interest (both my son and I). I've decided to archive the caches we have so others will be free to place caches in those areas.

Geocache Description:

One of the 23 Maryland Historical Markers in Frederick County.  Hope to make a series out of them and this is the first.

On a visit to the Corning Glass Museum a few years ago my wife pointed out an exhibit with glass from Amelung Glass Works, and noted that the glass works was in Frederick County. I had passed this marker daily and never paid much attention until one day when I slowed down to let a car in front turn, saw this marker and remembered the trip to Corning. Part of the Maryland Historical Trust Roadside Markers Program this marker points to the first glass manufacturing in Md. While nothing remains of the New Bremen Glass Factory built by John Frederick Amelung, the house still stands and is part of the Maryland Historical Trust and was listed in the on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Examples of New Bremen Glass can be found at Metropolitan Museum of Art the Corning Museum of Glass Corning, New York; and Winterthur Museum in Winterthur, Delaware. One of the things I've enjoyed about Geocaching has been the opportunity to visit places with historical importance. Hope you do too. The Cache is a simple nano.
