Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to Akoonah Park in Berwick. We placed this one while doing research for a night cache in the area (coming soon!), along with the Whomping Willow (GC5XKP8). This is this a great park in the City of Casey which is worthwhile exploring, especially on a Sunday when the markets are on, just look out for muggles. The cache is a 200ml Sistema container, with room for small swaps. Please bring your own writing implement.

We would suggest avoiding the area on show days and any other event times, but most of the time the area is a quiet public park.

Akoonah Park is Crown Land reserved as a Show Ground and Recreation Reserve. It is situated in the City of Casey on the eastern edge of Berwick adjoining the Cardinia Creek. The area of 11 hectares has been developed to provide facilities for the Berwick Agricultural Society and recreational facilities for the community.

The Berwick show is held in the last weekend in February and a Horse Show 2 weeks later in March. Overlooking the grassed arena for sporting events, Akoonah Park features a 150 seat Function Room, the Young Farmers building,a playground , walking tracks, basketball rings, BBQ areas, all weather horse dressage areas, cattle tie up yards and a camping area. Two equestrian all weather dressage arenas are located at the northern end of the Reserve and are open for public use except for 2 Sundays in the month when the Berwick Riding Club (2nd Sunday) and Berwick Pony Club (last Sunday) hold their monthly rallies.

This cache was placed by the Casey Cachers, on behalf of Geocaching Melbourne, for the upcoming Melbourne Event on the 14th and 15th of November. Although Casey Cachers have only a small number of finds, they are a team of dedicated cachers with 37 years of caching experience, over 20,800 finds and 450 hides between them, they have come together specifically to create caches for this event, and the ongoing enjoyment of all cachers following the event.
