Cheatgrass is native to europe and northern africa, but first spread to New York and Pennysvania. It is basically everywhere in the U.S, besides some parts in the South like Florida and Alabama. The reason it thrives is because it doesnt need alot of nitrogen to grow. It also has deep roots to reduce competion from other plants.
