It's always a lovely walk along to the end of Second Beach. There's a fun earthcache at the end you'll want to do http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC3AMWR_rakiriri-remainders. Once you've looked at the volcanic features, walk a bit further to the very end of the flat path for this 50 ml container. Bring your own pen.
WARNING: THERE IS A SHEER DROP INTO THE SEA HERE. WATCH CHILDREN CAREFULLY.
You will NOT need to go near the edge. But you WILL need to climb up the rocks, just a very wee bit though, and at the safe and easy place everyone else goes up. Use the clue.
Back in 2000 there was a suggetion that a track from here could go along the clifftop to Tunnel Beach as a Milenium project, but the ORC didn't fund that. Now there is another group trying to put a track in http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/342290/coastal-walkway-details-revealed so maybe one day we will be able to keep walking along here.
