Geocache Description:

Lakeside Country Park features 22 hectares of lakes, woodlands and wet meadows, situated between Southampton and Eastleigh. The restored gravel works are great for walking, picnicing, taking the GeoDog out, fishing, or visiting the steam railway that operates around the site. The Railway opens every weekend throughout the year and daily mid July to mid September plus all school holidays 10.00am - 4.30pm (4pm during the winter).

This multi-cache has been designed to take you around the beautiful Lakeside Country Park. Don’t get too obsessed with this one though, as it’s also been designed to take you near to the other brilliant caches located in and around the park. Bikes and GeoDogs are welcome, but please follow the instruction signs regarding where dogs need to be kept on a lead. This multi would take approximately 30-60 minutes if you were really going for it, but we encourage you to enjoy the park as you go around, ride the train, stop by the lakes and enjoy the scenery. The final cache is a disguised micro container, please replace it safely as found, thank you.

The start point for this multi will take you to the station for the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway. You can read up on the railway here including the opening times and prices; we strongly recommend a ride, especially if you have the geokids with you! Here you should be able to find the number for A by working out the sum of the digits for the length of the tunnel in metres.

From here, you’re free to visit the other locations in whatever order you desire! All will need to be visited to gain all of the information for the final set of coordinates, and if you choose to do them in order they take you on a nice walk around the park. Why not take the train as well? You can find some of the information you’re looking for whilst riding along, and it may take you to a point where you can find other information nearby? Of course, you can walk or cycle as well if you desire!

When at Location 1, N50 57.335 W001 21.819, the number of letters in the English name for the colour on the edges of the installation here will give you the answer for B.

Location 2 at N50 57.427 W001 21.717 gives an important instruction for the train driver. How many letters are in this instruction for the answer to C?

Location 3 at N50 57.418 W001 22.000 has a sign explaining what is not permitted at this lake. D is the number of things you cannot do.

Location 4 at N50 57.349 W001 22.038 takes you a stone map to the lakes. E is the number of letters in the name of the north eastern lake.

Location 5 at N50 57.500 W001 22.127 gives an important instruction regarding feeding the wildlife. How many creatures excluding humans does this sign specifically name to answer F?

Location 6 at N50 57.474 W001 22.037 has an installation that can make even the largest of people feel small. How many letters are in the name attributed to the quote across it to answer G?

Once you have worked out the numbers for A to G, the cache can be found at the following:

N50 (A-G)(A-F).(A-B)(A-F)((C*2)+1) W001 (D/2)(A-E).(C+1)(G-3)(A-B)

Check your solution.

The cache is located in a part of the park not normally visited by people. There are obvious paths that lead to the cache from the north and south, please respect the wildlife and do not create your own path! There is an easy path and a hard path to the cache, good luck! Happy hunting, and please replace the cache safely as found!
