Geocache Description:

This trail of caches celebrates another step towards a cycle and pedestrian friendly New Zealand. Most aren't drive-bys, so park nearby and walk or cycle the trail. As this is a high traffic area we have tried to give helpful hints to make the finds quicker.  You may find a distraction like children, a dog, bike trouble or the trusty hi-vis vest of invisibility is useful. They contain a logbook only - BYOP! Swag not suitable as they hang lid down.

The velocipede (fast foot in Latin) was invented in France in the 1860's. It was the first two wheeler with pedals - they were cranks connected to the front wheel.

Made of wood and iron, they were heavy and uncomfortable to ride on the cobblestone streets. It's no wonder they were commonly called boneshakers! Some rode them inside in arenas like skating rinks, but they were just a fad and had fallen out of favour by the end of the decade.

You may not have much to say in a log on this trail, but maybe you could add your own bike stories, facts, jokes, memories or photos.
