Geocache Description:

Discover Mount Noah. The ark was finally discovered in the Klein Karoo!

See life size catamarans and sail yoghts on top of a hill in Oudtshoorn! The boats were mounted on platfoms and overlooks the town of Oudtshoorn and the green valley to the Nort east. The Klein Karoo was under water for many years. This inland sea was called the Karoo sea. The geology (Conglomerates and Sandstone formations) near the cache was formed by running and also still standing water at some stage. There was probably a freshwater and saltwater stage where as the whole area flooded. The area dried up and the little hills and dongas were the end result of erosion and weathering over the years. The quarry and crushers for taking out big pieces of Sandstone to build some of the feather palaces during the Ostrich feather boom era was also in this area. Stand on top of the hill to the right of the cache to get awesome views and appreciate the lay of the land. The concrete quarry remains are just a few hundred metres away. You will soon understand why it is called Mount Noah

The cache is literally located inside the catemarang gate. The owners do not have to open the gate for you to find it. _They granted permission to place the cache here.
