Geocache Description:

Canines seem to play a part in finding caches. This short series celebrates some canines who probably never cached. Should be an easy find. One of these five caches will have an unactivated Wigoweb geocoin for the first finder. The handsome fellow below is Wigo Too, successor to the original Wigo who inspired wigoweb.

Canine Caches

What do you remember about some almost famous dogs? This series may bring back memories for some and offer new information for others.

Dogs played many roles in human activity. One dog has received occasional credit for locating a cultural treasure. This canine might have been a great caching asset if he had lived sixty years later.

We will tell you some of the story here on the cache page and let you learn the rest by doing a web search or by finding the cache. On September 12, 1940, the entrance to Lascaux Cave was discovered by young Marcel Ravidat and his dog. Ravidat returned to the scene with three friends, Jacques Marsal, Georges Agnel, and Simon Coencas, and entered the cave via a long shaft. The teenagers discovered that the cave walls were covered with depictions of animals.

Cave Finding Dog

If you don’t know the name of the dog who helped discover the cave and the paintings, you can read the answer when you find the cache. I looked at many pictures from these caves, but did not find any dogs depicted.
