Geocache Description:

Larry Monroe was a beloved DJ and musicologist. Broadcasting since age 14, his radio career in Austin spanned 36 years, with such iconic programs as Blue Monday, Phil Music, and Texas Radio Live. He was well known for his thematic “segways” in which he flowed a spoken piece or a song seamlessly into another song.

While Larry was knowledgeable about many genres of music, his specialty was Austin and Texas singer-songwriters, and he never stopped promoting them. Larry is one of the reasons Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World. When he died on January 17, 2014, Austin lost one of its most important champions for Austin and Texas musicians. He was a DJ dedicated to his listeners more than any other.
To honor his life, friends came up with ideas for ways to permanently and publicly honor Larry for his considerable contributions to Austin’s music culture. There was talk of a statue, and there was talk of a bench. In the end it was decided to create The Larry Monroe Forever Bridge, which the Austin Arts Commission and City of Austin unanimously approved in December of 2014.
Larry’s partner, Ave Bonar, and mosaic artist Stefanie Distefano lead a revolving team of volunteers to create ceramic tiles for a mosaic artwork, which have been installed on a charming little bridge located on Eastside Drive, just north of Monroe Street, between Big Stacy and Little Stacy Parks in South Austin’s Travis Heights, near where Larry once lived.
The bridge was dedicated on June 20, 2015. This cache was hidden just after the dedication, and hopefully will bring a few people to see this new Austin memorial.

Warning: There is some PI on the way to the cache, but not on the tree where the cache is hidden.
