Geocache Description:

Are you new to Geocaching? Are you intimidated by puzzles?  Having trouble getting into solving puzzle caches?  Then this event might be the answer you are looking for!

Date: 11 July 2015

Time: 1-3pm

Location: Belconnen Library community room

This event is especially designed to help new (and not-so-new) geocachers get the most from geocaching by introducing them to the tips and tricks to solving puzzles.  It may not get you solving Difficulty 5 puzzles straight away, but you should be able to walk away having an idea what to look for and how you might go about solving different sorts of puzzle caches.

As an added bonus, attending this event will enable you to collect the second of the five geocaching "15 year anniversary" souvenirs from Geocaching.com!

This event is designed for newbie geocachers, and there are limited seats. If you are an experienced geocacher, then perhaps this event is not for you. If experienced geocachers are keen to collect the souvenir, I am happy work with someone else in August to put on another event!

The first half of this event will be some short introductions from some of the ACT’s best puzzle setters and solvers on different sorts of puzzles – codes, ciphers, images, text based, maths, etc.  I am hoping that Noikmeister, Tankengine, ZQX, Pacmania and Winterdragon will be able to share their expertise!  They will introduce you to some common ways to assess puzzles and the various options around that will help you solve them.  The presentations will use case studies from non-ACT or archived puzzles. The second half of the event will be informal chatting and assistance  in relation to individual puzzles that cachers would like to get some leads on.

The Belconnen Library has provided a community room to us for free.  This includes free wifi so you can download puzzles to talk about and look at on-line resources available.  But please feel free to print off or store puzzles off-line before you come along .  The event is from 1-3pm Attendees are invited to bring a plate of food or some drink to share.

As usual, a log sheet will be available for signing at the event, and online logs will be checked against the physical log afterwards.  There will be a raffle draw for a FTF prize.

Please log your possible attendance so I can figure out how to arrange the furniture – the more people, the fewer desks!
