Geocache Description:

This is my “Postcards of Simpler Times” Series, my way of making the past become visual to all of us. You will not be given coordinates to anything but the nearest post office and have to determine where ground zero is from the old postcard below and the objects you must find in the present setting. The subject, present or not, must be located within a 2 mile radius of the posted coordinates.

Halifax, Cove, NS
To solve this puzzle cache you must determine the letter substitutions for in the following coordinates.

N 44 AB.CDE, W 63 FG.HJK

The postcard above is circa 1900. First you must figure out where the photographer took the shot and go stand there.
North of you is a parking lot. In the southeast corner of the lot is a plaque describing a local businessman. One of his ships made a maiden voyage in ###K.
Walk along the road that goes west from your location. At the end of this road you will see a large piece of military hardware. Just south of the emplacement is a small brass disc imbedded into concrete. This is a Canadian Geological Survey geodetic marker or “benchmark”. The easting of the marker is E ######.C
Continue southwest from your location along the road until you come to the second major intersection. Turn northwest and walk until you see a civic canine toilet on the east side of the road. The patent number on this particular toilet is ###B##.
Continue walking northwest past a parking lot where you will turn northeast until you reach a fountain. Looking south you will see another road with a stone building to the west and F unique light standards to the east.
Walk southwest until you reach the road you were walking on before. Turn southeast until you reach a large green and white sign. Turn southwest and walk until you come to a tower. This tower received a nationally recognized designation in ###A.
Walk west until you come to a large intersection. In the centre of this large intersection is a tree planted for a guardian of nature, it was planted in ###E.
Walk southeast until you come to a set of stairs on the west side of the road. At the bottom of the stairs is a plaque describing a discontinued local service which was started in #D##.
Continue southwest to the next intersection and turn south. This road curves towards the northeast. On the south side of the road you will see a cairn and two pieces of military hardware. Engraved on the piece of hardware to the west is a series of numbers, #-#-#H.
Continuing northeast you will see a memorial. There are G### names engraved on this memorial.
Continuing northeast there is a memorial to a ship which started service to Canada on #J January, ####.
From here you should be able to find ground zero easily, but remember you are by the water, signals bounce a lot. I hope you enjoy this cache and look for others in the series. You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.
