A cache in remembrance of a local family.
During the Turkish occupation of Crete there was much persecution of the local people. The women and children of a local family were hiding from the Turks in a cave not far from this spot. We understand from a local man that the cave was found, blocked and then set alight. Spare a though for these poor souls as you pass what is now a very peaceful spot. There is a monument dedicated to these people to the right of the track as you continue down the gorge. As you would expect the gps signal can be unaccurate so there is a hint and a spoiler if you need them.
