Geocache Description:

A micro along a little-known canal levee trail that goes nowhere.

This is a resurrection of Trail to Nowhere: http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCT4WZ_trail-to-nowhere-coyote-creek-parkway?guid=06b52290-2a36-48b9-af11-2fd4df95318d. That cache, a 2-stage multi, was intended to be an introduction to the levee trail along the Coyote Canal in the Coyote Creek Parkway. The first stage was right here. The final stage was almost near the end, which is close to Hwy 101. The problem is that the trail is not well-maintained, as it's not really a trail. It's an unpaved service road for the canal, which is not in use. In the summer, it tends to get overgrown with painfully spikey yellow-star thistles, making travel to the final stage nearly impossible unless you're wearing chaps. So I converted the first stage of the multi to a single-stage along the part of the trail that doesn't get overgrown. It's a micro. Bring your own writing instrument. Try to keep it out of sight of muggles. Be careful if you're not wearing long sleeves.

Note that this is on the east side of Coyote Creek. It is easily accessible from the paved Coyote Creek Trail. It is not accessible from the equestrian trail on the west side of the creek. The nearest access point to the south is at "Trail's End South - The Coyote Creek Trail," at the end of Malaguerra Avenue. The access from the north is closer. Park at the Santa Clara County Model Aircraft Skypark and head down the Coyote Creek Trail.

Update 2017: The Coyote Canal caused flooding on Hwy 101 just north of here. As a consequence, and to prevent further flooding in the future, the canal was breached in several places, and a dam was built across the canal. This means the canal levee has some holes in it that have to be bypassed. There is one breach just before you reach this cache if you come from the south, but it's easily bypassed. A mile or so farther north, there's a huge breach and a dam that makes it very difficult to continue farther. The final stage for the previous incarnation of this cache is now effectively inaccessible.
