Old houses: Prince Eugen of Savoy Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cenarius: Hi Galejnik,

Unfortunately there's been some continuing issues with this cache and there is no reaction from the owner. Since the cache no longer meets the Guidelines requirements, I am archiving it. I'm also archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you think you have legitimate reasons for lack of maintenance and want to restore the cache in the near future, please let me know as soon as possible by the email provided in my profile. The message must include the GC code and the name of the cache. If the cache meets the requirements of the Guidelines and the reasons for unarchiving are justified, I may unarchive the cache.

IMPORTANT:
In case of permanent archiving of the cache, the owners are obliged to remove everything that they have placed on the field in relation to the cache (container and all placed waypoints).

Thank you for your understanding and best regards.

Geocache Description:

Old houses: Prince Eugen of Savoy

Preparing the cache series “Old houses” in Belgrade I found that the oldest is the house on Cara Dushana Str. 10 (cache “Old houses: Scary, mysterious and the oldest”). However, by chance I came across to information that one house in Zemun (part of Belgrade since 1945; former independent town of Zemun) is even older! Wow! If I continue searching, I am sure that this series will be significantly expanded

Here stayed Prince Eugen of Savoy

The oldest house in Zemun (and Belgrade) dates from the 17th century and it represents one of few buildings which have left from period of Turkish rule in Zemun. Some historic documents say that Prince Eugene of Savoy stayed for one month in this house during the second siege of Belgrade in 1717. He led the forces of the Habsburg Monarchy to overtake the city from the Ottoman Empire.

In later period, ground floor of the house was transformed into taverna White Bear and that name stayed until today. As it case with many houses in Belgrade, under this one spreads a net of tunnels (“lagums”), which was quite convenient, since they were used as taverna’s refrigerator.

"Lagum" as a refrigerator

Unfortunately, today the house is abandoned and closed for public, even though it is under protection of the municipality as a cultural-historical monument…

The cache is a micro plastic container.
