Geocache Description:

The National Trust owns and looks after the land Cogden along with much of the open land along the coast and westwards towards West Bexington and eastwards via Hive Beach to Freshwater. All of this can be explored via the network of paths which includes sections of the South West Coast Path.

The suggested starting point is the Nation Trust car park at Cogden. Parking is free for NT members, displaying their members badge, otherwise a small fee is payable at the Pay & Display machine.

This Cache is the 1st of 6 which can be combined with the caches below in a gentle circular stroll of a little over 2½ miles (4km) which takes you out across the fields before returning, via the meres, along the back of the reed beds. The area is rich in ground nesting birds and other fauna. If you bring a geodog please keep it on the lead in fields where there are livestock and elsewhere during bird nesting season (1st March to 31st August).

Note: The difficulty for each of the caches is on an individual basis. The Terrain takes into account the whole route. In Winter sections of the route can be muddy, especially in gateways and sections of the meres may be flooded. All the caches are within a few metres of the path. Warning: Unless you have a photographic memory you will need on/offline access to the cache entry for Cogden-7 or a copy of the images from it to solve the puzzle in the field.

To find this cache, leave by the kissing gate on the eastern side of the car park and head out on the permissive path across the fields. You are looking for a small clip top box which contains log book, pencil and tradable goodies.

This cache, like one other in the circuit is behind the wire but placed so you can reach through between the wires. You DO NOT need to reach over the barbed wire or climb the fence.

The other caches in this series are:
Cogden Flora – 2 (GC5Y8CN)
Cogden Flora – 3 (GC5Y8CT)
Cogden Flora – 5 (GC5Y8DF)
Cogden Flora – 6 (GC5Y8DN)
and finally:-
Cogden Flora -7 (GC5Y8E5) The Bonus and you will need to collect the clues in the caches above to solve this one, so don’t forget! Note: There is now no Cogden Flora - 4
