This medieval church, with parts dating from the 1100s, has a bold brick tower and stands next to the grounds of Stansted Hall in a peaceful setting despite the nearby motorway and airport.
It contains two exceptional 17th-century tomb figures –
wasp-waisted Hester Salusbury
in her hunting clothes
and her father, Sir Thomas Middleton.
