EARLY SCHOOL DAYS & OLD FRIENDS
Adolphustown

In 1824, Hugh Macdonald moved his family to Hay Bay where he opened a shop in his red painted house just west
of the Methodist Meeting House.
He was also the agent for The Kingston Chronicle in the Hay Bay area.
From here, young John A., along with his sisters, Margaret and Louise, walked to a small log school taught by
Mr. Hughes in nearby Adolphustown village. They joined other young scholars from the Allen, Hagerman, Dorland, Trumpour and Ruttan families.
Contemporaries later remembered John A. as “nicely dressed and rather superior in ability.”
On Sundays, the Macdonald family also attended St. Paul’s Church in the village.

When Reverend McWilliams organized a political picnic in Bath in 1882,
Sir John A. Macdonald insisted that his rival David Wright Allison be present “since he and Allison were old friends”.
On June 20, 1882 Macdonald was elected in Lennox, defeating Allison, a successful Adolphustown farmer and lumberman, by 201 votes.
This victory was challenged under the Controverted Elections Act, and Macdonald was unseated.
Allison served as a Member of Parliament for Lennox from 1883-1891.
The museum on the grounds is the former home of David Wright Allison.  Sir John A. ran in Carleton and won that seat.

THE PUZZLE

The final location will be at

N 44° 03.8AB  W 077° 00.C5D

At the posted coordinates will be a telephone pole

Add each of the large digits by the red dot, now add 89 to that number.
This will equal AB

Now just using the top row of numbers the Middle number will equal C
and the left number will equal D

Now off you go to the final.
