LAW OFFICE IN CLARKVILLE
Clarkville

In 1832, when he was seventeen, John A. Macdonald came to Clarkville to open a law office for George Mackenzie of Kingston.
John S. Cartwright had commissioned a survey of Napanee village lots across the river and was ready to sell some.
Macdonald boarded at the Loucks house and had an office in the shop run by Tom Ramsay.
It was a choice location since the road from Kingston came down the hill by the store.
He often visited his relation Allan Macpherson who represented Cartwright interests.
Macpherson’s grand home can be seen across the river.
In 1834, John A. left Napanee to join his cousin Lowther Pennington Macpherson’s practice in Hallowell (Picton).
