Not all CITOs are about litterpicking! Come and help us clear invasive fallen leaves in Backwell Park.
Sunday 15th November, starting at 11am.


Besides pumpkins, fallen leaves are the icon of autumn: they're absolutely everywhere. Usually, they aren't an issue, but the Backwell Playing Fields Charity (BPFC), who manage the park, are looking for volunteers to help clear the leaves. Because of this, they have given us permission for this CITO to take place.

What's the Issue?

There are a large amount of trees on this side of the park, and this in turn means a large amount of leaves, which accumulate quickly around, and begin to block, the car parks, play area and the road to the football club.

We will be helping the BPFC to pick up these leaves before they combine with rain/snow and become mulchy, slippery and generally unpleasant. Also, we need to remove dangerous spiky conker shells which fall near to the children's play area.

The event is scheduled to start at 11am and should end by 12.30pm, as not to clash with Sunday football matches.
Campervandude will be at GZ, with a logbook and trackable swap box. He'll give you a bag if necessary (see below) and assign a task/area based on equipment you bring and what you feel happy doing.

Please bring: Gardening gloves and Leaf Clearing Equipment- rakes, 'grabbers', blowers - anything to make the job easier. If you have them and are willing to bring them along, please do, as supply is limited.
We will supply you with a green bag, to put the leaves in.

The leaves we collect will be given to local allotments to turn into compost. If you want some for your home composter, you're by all means welcome, but you'll need to bring your own container to take them back in.

PS... There may or may not be a new cache series in Backwell published to coincide with the end of the event... You'll have to wait and see!
