Tractors:

  • In 1892 John Froelich developed the first tractor in Waterloo, Iowa.
  • Froelich and investors started a company to build and sell tractors. This company was later purchased by the plow-manufacturing company John Deere.
  • The manufacturing of tractors continues in Iowa today, with exports totaling over $1.1 billion annually.
