Geocache Description:

Gravel road suitable for most vehicles, a park and get down a closed off accessway.

BYOP

Wattle trees are abundant along the wairau river bed.  These trees are fast growing, hardy and make excellent firewood.  They are also bad for allergies at times and in some areas considered a pest.  Along here they help keep the riverbank stabilised and provide an element of flood protection.  Cutting of live trees in this council reserve is prohibited.  It is possible at times to get access to the dead 'driftwood' on the river bed itself.

You can drive to here (within a short walk of the cache) via Cravens road, Hillocks road, or under the SH1 bridge by the concrete plant.

A popular area with dog walkers (mostly the type that run the pig dogs from the ute) and fishermen.  The track here leads to the river, where you can catch brown trout.  Also popular swimming areas in the summer.
