The cache is a small plastic container containing a stash card, log book and a pen. There is probably also just enough room for a "trackable" or two.
The Pool of Virkie is a tidal lagoon at the southern end of the Shetland Mainland and is a, "Site of Scientific Interest" or "SSI", due to the numerous wading birds, gulls and ducks that feed on the mud flats and nest in the surrounding area. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the area became known as the "Dutch Pool" because of the Germanic traders that would anchor in the area; "Dutch" being the local pronunciation of the visitors' own word, "Deutsch". The actual Dutch traders were known simply as Hollanders. Flint stones are to be found around the shores of the Pool. As flint does not occur naturally in Shetland, it is believed these are discarded ballast from the visitors' boats. Although it is suitable for a "Cache and Dash", sturdy footwear is recommended and extra care should be taken, particularly if conditions are wet. The cache's location is not suitable for small children, and dogs should be kept under control because of the road; the cattle and sheep in the fields opposite and the wildlife around the pool.
