Geocache Description:

The routes between the West Riding and Lancashire through the Standedge
gap laid the foundations for the prosperity of the South Pennine villages.
Follow in the footsteps of those who made and used these routes as you
explore our CROSSING THE PENNINES Heritage Trail.

Sympathise with the medieval packhorse trains, toiling up Scout Lane and down Marsden Lane on their way from Halifax to Oldham and beyond!

The path upwards to Crow Trees Road has been restored authentically in 2015 as part of establishing the Heritage Trail; as you start to climb, there's a marker stone on your left , either a guide stone to indicate a junction of paths or an estate boundary marker for Slaithwaite Hall.

You will pass a splendid stone sculpture of a packhorse carrying rolls of cloth, specially commissioned for the Crossing the Pennines project.
