Geocache Description:

The town (dorp) Bredasdorp originated when the Dutch Reformed Church was built in 1838 on the farm Langefontein and named after Michiel van Breda. Bredasdorp was the first town in South Africa with the suffix 'dorp' added to it.

Today it is the centre of a thriving farming community and Overberg tourist industry. 

In the centre of the 'old' town lies the PE Roux Memorial Garden, also known as Bredasdorp Square. The central piece being the fountain and the rose garden. Situated at the back of the gardens, the double story Victorian House is situated, built around 1894.

Situated in this building you will find the Information Centre and a coffee shop.
