Atanasoff–Berry computer:

  • The world's first automatic electronic digital computer was developed at Iowa State College (now University) in Ames, Iowa, in 1942.
  • The device pioneered important elements of modern computing, including binary numbers, all-electronic computation, separated computation and memory storage, and electronic switching elements.
  • Developed by physics professor John Vincent Atanasoff and graduate student Clifford Berry.
