- Grant Wood was born near Anamosa, Iowa.
- He is best known for his paintings of Midwestern landscapesand the painting American Gothic.
- He taught painting at the University of Iowa.
- His largest paintings are murals in the Parks Library at Iowa State University.
- The Iowa quarter is based on Wood's Arbor Day painting.
