The Amish:
 

• Iowa has several Amish communities across the state, with the highest concentration in southeast Iowa near Kalona and Bloomfield.
• The Amish are decendents of 17th century German-speaking Swiss who immigrated to America to seek out religious freedom.
• Their beliefs hold strict views on dress and technology. The level of strictness varies depending on their conservative or progressive levels.​
• The Amish communities are focused on farming, self-reliance, and mutual aid. Many areas will have small stores along the road to sell goods such as quilts, honey, or furniture, to tourists.
• They are not related to the Amana colonies.
