Basketball:

• At least 73 professional basketball players have come from Iowa.
• The most famous are Harrison Barnes and Fred Hoiberg, both claiming Ames, Iowa as their hometown.
• Fred Hoiberg was a standout at Ames High and played for Iowa State University before playing in the major leagues. A heart condition forced him to retire. He became the head coach for ISU in 2010 and the head coach for the Chicago Bulls in 2015.
• Harrison Barnes was also a standout at Ames High. He played two years for the University of North Carolina before being drafted by the Golden State Warriors, which won the NBA championship in 2015.
