Nile Kinnick & Jack Trice:
- Nile Kinnick was a football player at the University of Iowa and the 1939 Heisman Trophy winner. He died in a plane crash during World War Two. The university's stadium is named after him.
- Jack Trice was the first African-American athlete at Iowa State. He died after a football game in 1923 due to injuries sustained after opponents intentionally trampled him. The university's stadium is named after him.
