Mist Mountain Outlier Traditional Cache

This small lock and lock container is located at an elevation of about 3,040 meters atop the Mist Mountain Outlier. Travel to this geocache will require a significant off-trail scramble on easy terrain. Expect an elevation gain of well over 1,100 meters and a return trip of over 10 kilometers.

Travel to the Mist Mountain Outlier follows most easily from the "easy" southern slopes approach of Mist Mountain. Park at the recommended parking and find a rock cairn to access the hiking trail. Turn right (east) at a junction and hike this trail for ~1 kilometer. Turn north at a prominent trail and hike up to the col. From here, follow slightly defined trails up a scree bowl. You can see the Mist Mountain Outlier towering above. At least an hour of scree slogging stands between you and the outlier. Choose a route up the scree, hitting slabs along the way if desired. Once atop the ridge you are above 3,000 meters. Proceed on easy terrain to GZ!

You can also approach this outlier from any of the other routes up Mist Mountain - simply follow the ridge from the summit to the outlier.
