This station services from the state line to over 70 miles north. They operate a Search and Rescue Detatchment facility at the mouth of the Rouge River during the summer months and serve the community of Brookings-Harbor. The Coast Guard is the smallest branch of our armed forces and, while not combat oriented, they have a mission that directly impacts the lives of those that make their life along and amongst the sea: Search And Rescue. The Coast Guard operates on a budget smaller than that of the NYPD, and is composed of approximately 35,000 active duty men and women. As a military service they have never segregated the genders or had "gender norming" physical requirements. The belief that the job doesn't change regardless of gender in praxis.
