The Isles of Shoals are nine small rocky islands six miles off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire. In the 1600’s, the Isles of Shoals were used by Native Americans as fishing camps in the spring and summer. The Isles were named in 1614 by English explorer Captain John Smith.  (http://www.nhtourguide.com/things_to_do_nh/isles_of_shoals.htm)  From this park located in Rye, you can see the Isles of Shoals on a clear day.
