Geocache Description:

At the Stratton-Eustis Community Building (the village of Stratton in the town of Eusits), Main Street, on the left if heading north, 9/26/15, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The Eighth annual "Get Useless In Eustis" event (GUIE 8 or GUIE VIII) will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Eustis, Maine.  The Community Building (coords are for there) has been reserved for that day.  Doors will open at 7:00 AM.  If all goes well, we plan to serve breakfast at that time, pancakes, bacon, sausage.  I have hired Gail who usually assists with the set up of the pot luck dinner to cook for us. There will also be coffee, cocoa, juice, milk, cereal, doughnuts plus anything anyone cares to donate (bringing something is optional).  Food will be on a "as long as it lasts" basis.  At 8:00 AM  eight new caches will be published.  Each will have an unactivated geocoin as a FTF prize as well as pathtags and other swag.  The building will be open all day for hot coffee, restrooms, a place to meet friends, get warm and talk.  A potluck dinner will be held at 5:00 PM with door prizes after.  The building has two restrooms, a large completely equipped kitchen, two refrigerators, two ovens, a stage, lots of tables and chairs.  There will be a registration table (sign up for the door prize drawing), you MUST be present to win.  No alcoholic beverages or dogs are allowed in the building.

The large group site # 1 has been reserved at Cathedral Pines Campground, directly across the street from the main campground and about four miles north of the Community Building.  This means you may camp for free Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.  Or you may reserve and pay for your own private site in the main campground by calling 207-246-3491.  The group site has a fireplace, picnic tables and an outhouse but you may also use any of the facilities at the main campground: hot showers, flush toilets, rec room, playground and a swim beach.  You can also rent canoes and kayaks there.  If you pay $10.00 at the office, you will get a card that allows you access when the gates are locked.  The $10.00 is refundable if you turn the card in at the office when you leave.  Alcoholic beverages and dogs are allowed here.  The weather can be cold so plan accordingly.  There will be a campfire each night either at the group site or Saturday night at the PJPrebs.  All cachers are welcome to attend, camping or not.  Not into camping?  We have four motels and a B&B.  Please reserve early.

Saturday evening the potluck dinner will start at 5:00 PM.  Please bring something to share, meat, casseroles, soups, stews, desserts.  Crockpots are great for cooking or warming what you bring, anything to fill up hungry cachers who have spent the day in the woods.  If you can't bring something from home, you can cook here or bring big jugs of iced tea, soft drinks or pick up a hot pizza or two.  Please don't bring snacks, we don't have room to put them out and they don't fit the menu.

After dinner we draw for door prizes.  Children draw first from an assortment of appropriate items, then adults.  If you wish to bring something for a door prize, great! If not, that's fine too.  And we always need help setting up the tables either the evening before or just before breakfast, depending on when we can get in the building.  And help is especially appreciated cleaning up the building after the event.

In Eustis you can cache, kayak, hike, climb mountains, complete one of the Eustis Cache Challenges, drive dirt logging roads, enoy the foliage or do the Tim Pond power run.  And don't forget to drive up Quill Hill for a great view!  So come and visit this beautiful area, meet old friends, make new ones, just have fun.  Any questions please contact kayaking loon through geocaching.com
