This cache is the 4th in a series taking cachers to the parks of Glebe. This park has a long and wonderful history
There's lots of interpretive signs in the park relating the many uses this land has been put to throughout it's history, so walk around and have a read. The most interesting feature of the park is what is now the free Wifi spot. This was originally The Wireless House. It was built in 1934 and contained a wireless set donated by a local department store, to broadcast free radio to the people of Glebe, many of whom were too poor to have their own wireless. During the Second World war it was also popular with Italians living in the area, who were not allowed to own a radio in case they were sending covert information to the enemy! It continued to operate until the early 1950's, and then lay dormant. In 2009 it was repurposed, decorated with web-like artwork and refitted with modern electronics. Apart from offering free Wifi, if you approach the Wireless House it will play historic radio plays from the 1930's to 50's. The cache is not on the Wireless House, but nearby. Warning: To find this geocache you wll encouter evidence of real life. If real life frightens you or you want to sheild your children from aspects of real life, best give this one a miss
