The region of Radan and Sokolovica Mountain is quite far of the most frequent visited places in Serbia, but when you come here you will be surprised what it offers. It cherishes small lovely villages, few spa, interesting churches, and even a Devil’s town! Worth to visit…
Most famous village is Prolom and it’s Spa (Prolom Banya). Prolom is located near the city of Kuršumlija, in Southern Serbia. The springs of healing mineral water have been used since the ancient times. During the Turkish rule, this spa was abandoned and forgotten. After the World War II, people have spread the word of a miraculous recovery of one of its patients, and the number of visitors multiplied. Prolom is blessed with mild continental climate with more summer days than average in Serbia (82 days), lower humidity and temperate winds. Its lush vegetation has particularly stimulative effect on human organism and immune system.

This region is also interesting by its small, unusual churches. This cache will show you one of them.
The St Petka Church stone church was built in 1917 on the foundations of the old church from the XIII-XIV century. It’s new history is quite touching. The very existence of this church was unknown to local people until 1917, when the Russian White guard Gabriel, who settled in this region, fleeing from Russia after the murder of the last Russian Tsar, found the buried foundations. Gabriel dreamed several times that at the property of his patron, where he worked as a laborer, there are foundations of an old church. It took some time until he got the permission to dig all over the land, but finally he discovered stones, some of them even covered with wax from the candles. He carefully marked every stone and finally, with the help of many local people, they managed to reconstruct the church again.

Soon after the church became famous of its beneficial effects on people’s health. Young and old, healthy and sick, many people visited the church seeking help. Allegedly, this church has special effect on those who have suffered from headaches and psychological problems. Since then, those who are in pain leave their scarves, towels and robes, which had previously wrapped around the diseased parts of the body, and then bound them to the remains of the church and the surrounding trees. Soon they felt relieved of the pain…. Good to know, just in case…

How to get there: By car from the direction of Belgrade, it is best to take the highway to Niš, and then exit the highway toward Prokuplje and then Kuršumlija (don’t turn towards the city), all the way to the village Rudare, then turn left to Prolom (which is 10 km from the turn). The cache is at the beginning of village; from here it takes about 0.5 km to get to the spa and wellness center.(
The cache is small (100 ml) glass jar. Be extremely cautious when getting and logging the cache, the place is usually full of muggles.
