Geocache Description:

St Nicholas' Church is an Anglican church in the parish of North Stoneham. The current building was built in the 15th century, and it is famous for its one handed clock, that was added to the church in the 17th century. At the time the clock was built, time was counted in hours not minutes.

This cache is a multi cache, and all information can be found at the given locations in the church yard. The final cache itself is placed outside of the church boundary at the side of the road. Stoneham lane is mostly without pavements so please take care and be sensible if you decide to walk at the side of the road. The location can be accessed easily on bike, or via public transport with a bus stop directly outside. There is no official parking available at the location, the church car park is locked unless at service times, which we would highly advise you avoid.

At the first set of coordinates, look at the lychgate to find the date that Emily was at rest; A/Sept/BCDE.

From here you can take a wander around the church yard to admire the building and graves and visit location 1 at N50 57.208 W001 22.463 to find the rank preference of the regiment of William Henry Tucker Hill, who before he died was on the winning polo team at the Beresford Cup in South Africa. The rank preference is F.

From here you can continue anticlockwise around the church to location 2 at N50 57.215 W001 22.429 to find the name of James’ wife who died age 19. If a=1, b=2, c=3, etc, what number does the fourth letter of her name give you for the answer to G?

Now that you’ve got the answers, why not head back to the lychgate to sit and rest whilst you work out where the cache is hidden? The cache is outside of the church boundary at:

N50 (E) (A+B) . (G-A) (C-A) (C) W001 (G-A) ((A-F)+(C-G)) . (F-B) (B) (D)

A checksum of the full cache coordinates should give you 41.

The cache is a concealed micro container. You will need to bring your own pen/pencil. Please replace exactly as found, thank you. Take care along the roadside as there is no pavement, but the verge is wide enough for you to remain safely on it.
