This is the second of a series of caches remembering Little League fields past and present.
I was a manager for the North Kingstown American Little League for over 20 years. Over that time there were many changes in the league and many memorable moments.
The fields here at McGinn Park were built to replace the ones in Quonset Point. At the time there was only a major league field that was used by the Middle School. The two Little League fields were built and the existing Major League field was turned around to form this complex. The football field was also added to facilitate the youth football league.
The difficulty of this cache is low. It is more intended to re-live the memories of the games.
Standing here, no matter what the season, you can probably still feel the excitement of young players as they run onto the field to play. Maybe you can catch a homerun. I still enjoy wandering down to watch a game. Whether it be Spring, All Star or Fall Ball season
To quote one of my favorite baseball movies ‘Field of Dreams’:The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.
