Las azudas de Larmahue son un sistema de regadío ingenioso y único que comenzó a ser usado en la zona central de Chile a inicios del siglo XX. Estas obras constituyen un gran aporte de la civilización árabe, transmitida a España y luego a América. Las azudas se concentraron en la antigua Estancia de Larmahue, cuyos orígenes se remontan al siglo XVIII.
Este sistema permite regar tierras que carecían de riego, por encontrarse a una altura mayor que los canales de riego. El sistema consta de una rueda movida por la corriente del agua que al dar vuelta eleva el agua en unos recipientes colocados en todo su perímetro. Estas ruedas tienen un diámetro de cinco y seis metros y algunas tienen hasta ocho metros. El funcionamiento de estas ruedas ocurre entre septiembre y mediados de otoño, periodo en que se riega en la zona.
En el área existen cerca de 40 azudas, 17 de las cuales fueron declaradas Monumentos Nacionales de Chile por decreto Nº 830 del 10 de agosto de 1998.
Las azudas, por su ingeniosa construcción, son testimonio de la habilidad de los habitantes de la región para superar los escollos de la naturaleza en el desafío de aprovechar al máximo los terrenos agrícolas fértiles.
The azudas of Larmahue are an ingenious irrigation system that have been used in the central area of Chile since the early twentieth century. These artifacts are a big contribution of the Muslim civilization, which was transmitted to Spain and then to the Americas.
The azudas were common used in the 'Estancia de Larmahue”, whose origins date back to the eighteenth century. The system allows to irrigate lands that are at a greater height than irrigation canals. The system consists of a wheel, driven by the stream of a canal, which colects water into receptacles placed around the perimeter of the wheel. These wheels have a diameter of five to six meters and some of them have up to eight meters. The operation of these wheels occurs between september and mid-autumn, period when the area is watered.
In the area there are about 40 azudas, 17 of which were declared National Monuments in Chile by Decree No. 830 of August 10, 1998.
The azudas, for its ingenious construction, are a proof of the ability of the inhabitants of the region to overcome the obstacles of nature in the challenge of using a rich and fertile agricultural land.

En la segunda etapa llegarán a otra azuda, acá deberán encontrar un micro contenedor en cuyo interior se encuentra escrita las coordenadas de la tercera etapa.
En la tercera etapa encontraran el cache final, de tamaño pequeño (cilindro de 7 cm de diámetro x 9 cm de altura), donde podrán encontrar la bitácora y algunos pequeños objetos de intercambio.

In the second stage, you will be near to another azuda. Here you should find a micro container inside which is written the coordinates of the third stage.
In the third stage you can get to a small cache (7 cm diameter x 9 cm height), where you can find the logbook and some small objects to trade.
