The lowly cranberry has had a long history on the Long Beach Peninsula, and is home to the Pacific Coast Cranberry Research Foundation. Originally operated as a research center by Washington State University, when WSU pulled out the local farmers joined together to form a non-profit cooperative to continue research on growing and marketing their product.
For those that are interested, the Foundation offers a museum with exhibits of early cranberry harvesting tools, as well as a self-guided walking tour of the grounds that's available year-round. During harvest season from October through November, you may also see the berries being collected for processing.
The cache was placed here with permission from the manager of the Gift Shop and Museum operations, and is in plain sight.
In memory of Laurie Freeman aka geocache reviewer "Wizard of Ooze", aka geocacher Half-Canadian and Scooter the Wonder Dog. This geocache was originally placed by her for the enjoyment of the geocaching community.
