Geocache Description:

A short two-stage offset multi-cache showcasing local artwork in the new Rouse Hill area.

At the listed coordinates you will find a small metal plaque describing an art installation suspended overhead. Constructed with micaceous oxide painted laser cut steel, 'trace 2008' took inspiration from the term 'Ecological Footprint':

A small section of a footprint demonstrates an individuals' impact upon the environment. Footprints are measured by the amount of land (earth and it's resources) required by an individual to sustain their lifestyle. The measurement is usually in hectares the scale allows the viewer a personal reference to this theory, with a visual measure to help conceptualise the human demand upon the earth's ecosystems and natural resources.

The full names of the two artists responsible for creating this artwork are listed at the top of the plaque (their initials are MK and RW respectively). To determine the location of the cache:

  • Count the number of letters in the first and surname of the first artist.
  • Subtract the letter count of the first name from the letter count of the surname.
  • Add this number to the listed South coordinate to obtain the GZ South coordinate.
  • Count the total number of letters in the second artist's full name (first and surname).
  • Add the number of letters in the first artist's fist name.
  • Subtract this number from the listed East coordinate to obtain the GZ East coordinate.

You may wish to verify your calculated coordinates. The cache is hidden a short distance away from the listed coordinates and contains a log and pencil (although it's always a good idea to bring your own writing implement). Be aware of neighbours in the houses overlooking the reserve and use your best stealth techniques when searching for the cache!
