Geocache Description:

This is a magnetic cache with a scenic view of the Yazoo River Diversion Canal and the north end of the retired Motor Vessel Mississippi IV.

This cache is located near a museum that celebrates the lower part of the Mississippi River and life around it.  There is a theater where a short film where visitors will explore a centuries-long chronicle of how the Corps of Engineers, disasters, conflict, revolution and war have shaped the Mississippi River experience and spirit.

Other exhibits explore the Steamboat Era and the River as a Highway, the River as a Home, an aquarium that houses species of fish that are native to the lower Mississippi River, the importance of the river during the Civil War, how the river has meandered during the ages, what happened during the Great Flood of 1927, the work of the Corps of Engineers in trying to keep the river in check since then.

There is a scale model of the Mississippi River across the street to the west.

The largest exhibit is the M/V Mississippi IV.  This vessel was commissioned in 1961 and was both a work vessel and the inspection/public meeting rig for the Mississippi River Commission for more than 30 years.  It was the first diesel powered boat in the M/V Mississippi line.

There are many unique caches with colorful history in Vicksburg. I hope you stick around and hit a few more.

TitusLlewelyn makes the play for one more FTF. Good Work.
